In the beginning of our homeschooling journey, we only had 1 child of school age at that time. I stumbled upon homeschooling by accident. We chose it simply because I figured I could definitely do what it takes the schools 9 months to do. Why 9 long months? I mean, it's not childbirth. Educating a child should not take that long. I believe children need to find joy in learning while enjoying their childhood. We decided to take homeschooling one year at a time and it just stuck. Six children later and I think we made the best decision. As time went on, we continued to homeschool for several reasons:
So many children were slipping through the cracks of the school system. We did not want that to happen to our children. We wanted to provide them with an education that was as gap free as possible. Nothing is perfect, but we mutually agreed that experiences could've been better had we been provided with an alternative to brick and mortar education.
2. We wanted our kids to be exposed to culture and to the world. We wanted them to travel throughout the year and study various people, ways of life, languages, etc.
3. I definitely wanted a customized education for the children. After removing all boxed curriculum programs from our spaces, I began to write our own lessons and could incorporate all of the things that were important to us. There were so many things that were intentionally not taught to us in schools. I wanted to teach all the things that I didn't learn. That opened doors for me to learn right alongside my children.
4. We wanted a close family relationship. Our kids are extremely close and are really best friends. They have alot of fun together and they're all close to us as well.
5. It was cheaper lol. Seriously, homeschooling is cheaper if it's done on a budget.
6. We wanted to see God the Father, the Creator, woven through all of our learning. We wanted our studies, mission and life to show the love, light and life of Christ the
Messiah.
