There are several styles of homeschooling that you may hear or read about often. In this
post I will briefly cover 4 of these methods of learning:
1. Traditional-- The name speaks for itself. This is the typical textbook, worksheets, public school type book learning. There is usually a text or workbook for every individual subject. The parent may use teacher's manuals or guides in order to provide instruction to the child. Some like this style of learning and like to recreate the "school at home" setting.
2. Classical-- This form of home education is based on styles of learning that go back to the Roman and Greek ancient civilizations. Heavy emphasis is placed on reading great books and philosophy. There are 3 stages of study in this method of learning.
3. Eclectic--I like to call this the kitchen sink of learning. A little bit of everything is used in this style of homeschooling. Some parents will use a blend of workbooks, classics and maybe even some digital learning to "piece meal" their programs. This is one way of providing a truly customized homeschool.
4. Unschooling--This is a style of child led learning. Some parents believe that children learn in their natural, relaxed environment. Many prefer more hands on projects instead of scheduled learning. They may or may not provide a specific list of skills that the child needs to accomplish throughout the year.
I will be adding more to this list soon! Please check back for updates.
